The National Center of Addiction Control in Paraguay and Intercambios Civil Association organized two workshops on the use and abuse of drugs and the response of health services. One workshop was held in Asunción and the other in Villarrica. These activities were led by the incumbent of the National Center on Addiction Control, Manuel Fresco, and the head of Training and Intervention area of Intercambios, Paula Goltzman.

The first workshop, entitled “Diagnosis of the drug use and abuse situation and the treatment proposed”,  took place on Friday October 14 in the National University of Villarrica of the Holy Spirit. The event was sponsored for the British Embassy and supported by the University, the local municipality, and the Panambí Communications Group. Manuel  Fresco leaded the discussion on “Drugs as a complex problem. The drug situation in Paraguay and the institutional response from the Ministry of Health”, as well as Paula Goltzman  addressed “Accessibility of drug users to health services. Interventions into / from health services”. Before and after these presentations the participants took part  in group activities.

The next day, the second workshop was held at the National Addiction Center in Asuncion, “Diagnosis of the situation of healthcare provision for drug use problems,” which also was sponsored for the British Embassy. There were also group activities and Paula Goltzman addressed the theme of “Accessibility of drug users to health services. Interventions to / from health services” while Manuel Fresco spoke on “The use of drugs as a health problem. The drug situation in Paraguay “.
